Welcome to Carson
Welcome back!
We hope you have had a wonderful summer and are as excited as we are to begin a new school year. We are incredibly excited to welcome our students and families into our brand-new Carson Elementary School!
There is a great deal to celebrate as we begin this new chapter. Our new school represents an incredible amount of vision, planning, collaboration, and hard work. We would like to sincerely recognize and thank the previous Carson Elementary staff, School District 28 district and facilities staff, the architectural firm Station One, project planners, and the entire Yellowhead Construction team who brought this school to life. The care and attention that went into designing and building this space will provide our students and staff with an exciting environment in which to learn, grow, and build community for many years to come.
As a staff, our goal is always to provide students with a smooth, welcoming, and predictable start to the school year, with as little disruption to their learning and routines as possible. This year, however, we have experienced an influx of new registrations this week, causing our number to climb significantly. While we are thrilled to welcome these new students and families to our school community, the additional registrations mean that we need to approach the first few days of school somewhat differently than we normally would.
What Will the First Week Look Like?
For the first three days of school, students will be grouped by grade level rather than in their permanent classroom groups. Students will rotate through activities, getting to meet multiple staff members and explore the spaces of the new building:
- Wednesday, September 9
- Early Release Day for students in Grades 1-7
- Thursday, September 10
- Full Day Grades 1-7
- Kindergarten Group A 8:25-11:00
- Friday, September 11
- Full Day Grades 1-7
- Kindergarten Group B 8:25-11:00
On Wednesday, September 9, students in Grades 1-7 will be invited into the gym at 8:25 a.m. for a brief introductory assembly. This will be an opportunity for us to officially welcome our students to their new school, introduce some members of our Carson Elementary team, and share a few important details about the exciting year ahead.
Following the assembly, students will be organized by grade level and begin their first-day activities.
During these first three days, our staff will continue working carefully to finalize class lists and establish classroom communities.
This approach will allow us to welcome all of our students into the new school, help them become familiar with the building and routines, learn more about their individual needs, and make thoughtful decisions about classroom placements.
Kindergarten Schedule
Our Kindergarten students will have a slightly different schedule during the first week:
- Kindergarten Group A: Thursday, September 10, from 8:25–11:00 a.m.
- Kindergarten Group B: Friday, September 11, from 8:25–11:00 a.m.
Important Bus Reminder – Wednesday, September 9
Please remember that Wednesday, September 9 is an early release day.
School buses will pick students up three hours earlier than their regularly scheduled afternoon pickup time. As a result, please plan for your child(ren) to arrive home approximately three hours earlier than they normally would.
We encourage families to make arrangements ahead of time to ensure that someone is available to receive students when they arrive home.
